Dans ses sculptures monumentales comme dans ses installations mixtes, Laurent Pernot a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un univers contemplatif, faisant fi des hi\u00e9rarchies de genres ou de formes. Apr\u00e8s des \u00e9tudes en \u00e9cole de photographie et de premi\u00e8res exp\u00e9riences professionnelles, cet artiste plasticien fran\u00e7ais n\u00e9 en 1980 poursuit un cursus universitaire \u00e0 Paris VIII o\u00f9 il obtient une ma\u00eetrise Photographie &amp; Multim\u00e9dia en 2002 avant d\u2019int\u00e9grer le Fresnoy, l\u2019exigeant studio national des arts contemporains de Tourcoing. \u00ab\u2009J\u2019ai toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 davantage attir\u00e9 par le processus de cr\u00e9ation des images que par la commande en elle-m\u00eame, dit-il. \u00c0 l\u2019universit\u00e9, le champ de l\u2019art abord\u00e9 \u00e9tait plus vaste que celui de la photographie et de son histoire. C\u2019est l\u00e0 que je me suis sensibilis\u00e9 \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation contemporaine. Une fois admis au Fresnoy, j\u2019ai souhait\u00e9 poursuivre ma pratique photographique en la poussant un peu plus loin du c\u00f4t\u00e9 du cin\u00e9ma et de l\u2019installation vid\u00e9o.\u2009\u00bb Pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es, il encha\u00eene les r\u00e9sidences \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, en Asie, en Europe du Nord ou au Canada et d\u00e9veloppe alors \u00ab\u2009plusieurs vagues de recherches\u2009\u00bb. \u00ab\u2009Lorsque je suis revenu \u00e0 Paris et j\u2019ai eu envie d\u2019avoir mon atelier et de m\u2019emparer de nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux, d\u2019exp\u00e9rimenter diff\u00e9rentes techniques, diff\u00e9rentes formes. C\u2019est \u00e0 partir de ce moment-l\u00e0 que ma pratique s\u2019est vraiment \u00e9tendue.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">Il d\u00e9veloppe alors un r\u00e9pertoire polymorphe faisant appel \u00e0 la vid\u00e9o, \u00e0 l\u2019installation, \u00e0 la photographie, \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re et \u00e0 la sculpture, mais aussi \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9criture. \u00ab\u2009L\u2019\u00e9criture a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 au fondement de la conception de mes projets. Je me suis nourri de philosophie, de litt\u00e9rature et po\u00e9sie. Les mots et le langage ont pris de plus en plus de place dans mes cr\u00e9ations et j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 utiliser la mati\u00e8re textuelle comme une forme, comme une image. L\u2019\u00e9criture po\u00e9tique, par exemple, permet de traduire ou de retranscrire, parfois, avec seulement quelques mots, des pens\u00e9es complexes.\u2009\u00bb Avec plus d\u2019une trentaine d\u2019expositions personnelles \u00e0 son actif, il participe aussi \u00e0 de multiples expositions collectives dans des institutions culturelles telles que le Centre Pompidou, le Louvre Lens et le Palais de Tokyo, ou encore \u00e0 des foires, comme ART021 Shanghai ou r\u00e9cemment Art Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">\u00ab\u2009Quand on est jeune artiste comme moi \u2014 et surtout quand on d\u00e9couvre le milieu de l\u2019art plut\u00f4t tardivement, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire pendant ou apr\u00e8s ses \u00e9tudes comme je l\u2019ai fait \u2014, il faut aller assez vite. Et pour \u00e7a, il faut mettre en \u0153uvre ses envies sans trop se poser la question de savoir si vraiment la bonne voie, si c\u2019est vraiment un choix d\u00e9terminant ou essentiel, etc. Ensuite, chaque projet en am\u00e8ne souvent un autre. Il y a quelque chose de l\u2019ordre de continuit\u00e9 qui, peu \u00e0 peu, se tisse dans la dur\u00e9e.\u2009\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">Parfois install\u00e9es en pleine nature ou se d\u00e9voilant de mani\u00e8re inattendue sur une fa\u00e7ade historique, les \u0153uvres de Laurent Pernot convoquent souvent notre rapport au temps, long comme fugace, et \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire. \u00ab\u2009J\u2019ai plut\u00f4t tendance \u00e0 \u00eatre sensible \u00e0 ce que j\u2019appellerais la m\u00e9lancolie, une forme de m\u00e9lancolie douce et joyeuse. Seul le rapport au pr\u00e9sent m\u2019int\u00e9resse, il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019une nostalgie tourn\u00e9e vers le pass\u00e9 et les regrets. Pour moi, c\u2019est une sorte de tendresse vis-\u00e0-vis de ce que l\u2019on vit aujourd\u2019hui, notre rapport au vivant, les paradoxes de notre relation au monde.\u2009\u00bb Dans le cadre du programme Mondes nouveaux, Laurent Pernot a ainsi imagin\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie d\u2019interventions pour le Centre des monuments nationaux, \u00ab\u2009op\u00e9rant des rapprochements entre exp\u00e9rience physique de l\u2019art et exp\u00e9rience de la nature\u2009\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">Au Domaine de Saint-Cloud, sa sculpture Je me souviens r\u00e9v\u00e8le dans un bassin des lettres \u00e0 demi immerg\u00e9es en pierre naturelle de Haims. \u00ab\u2009Je ne vois pas de diff\u00e9rence entre une vid\u00e9o, une \u0153uvre lumineuse ou une peinture, confie l\u2019artiste qui travaille actuellement sur une autre sculpture monumentale destin\u00e9e l\u2019espace public. Pour moi, elles rel\u00e8vent d\u2019une exp\u00e9rience sensorielle et sensible, parfois spirituelle ou plus intellectuelle, selon les interpr\u00e9tations. Le programme de la Galerie Marguo se concentre sur les artistes \u00e9mergents du monde entier avec un fort \u00e9l\u00e9ment franco-chinois, issu de l&#8217;exp\u00e9rience de Vanessa Guo dans la construction de relations avec les artistes en Asie et du d\u00e9sir d&#8217;offrir une plus grande visibilit\u00e9 aux artistes asiatiques en Europe.
